Boromir: On Papers

This was so entertaining to me that I compulsively went searching for a Boromir meme to go along with it. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually exist (in the form of 'one does not simply write a paper;' at least not that I could find). Of course, because my Photoshop trail hasn't run out yet (and because apparently, I'll do anything to avoid the real world), I just had to spend precious time I will not be getting back to create this:

I don't quite know when I turned into the advocate/champion for the first season of the New Series, but I think I've done a very good job of it. I honestly think that it's a shame for people to just jump on the Matt Smith bandwagon without at least giving Eccly and Tennant a try, mostly because I think once they do they'll realize why it's even remotely close to as awesome as it is with Matt Smith. I mean, don't get me wrong, I adore Matt Smith. I think he's quirky and weird and great, mostly because  (and I might have said this before) of his Willy Wonka-esque mannerisms and eccentricities. But that being said, he really has got nothing on Eccly and Tennant's humanity, their passion and devotion and human connections (not to mention the eight Doctors before).

I almost feel like without knowing, really, everything that the Doctor has lost, you can't quite understand all his choices and his reasoning.

What really happened to Stonehenge

This kind of makes my day.

I've decided to make my novel this November an Urban Fantasy/superhero/ancient prophecy type story revolving around a set of characters that have powers based on the different Zodiac signs. Still haven't figured out wot those powers are going to be, though people on the NaNoWriMo forums have been might helpful. The prophecy revolves around the coming of the 13th, who can type the balance to either good or evil, [insert superhero movie trope], etc. etc.

Let's see if I can make a 50,000 word novel out of that or not.

It's a typewriter...that connects to computers or iPads and works as a keyboard. Oh yes...it also works as a regular typewriter. Talk about old school advanced technology. I wish I had one of those right now, I feel like even just the clicking of the keys would make me happy. Wot can I say, I'm clearly an old soul.

In other words, this is absolutely and utterly brilliant. I mean, it kind of makes you do a double take. You know how the Doctor made the perception filters out of the TARDIS keys for Martha and Captain Jack? This is wot this makes me think of. That feeling of how your eyes almost don't want to focus on it. Maybe it's just me and I'm looking (teehee, pun intended) too much into it. But yeah, still brilliant.

Poor Malfoy, that might have been the most awkward/uncomfortable moment of his life. I feel that despite the audience's collective laughter, there was also an element of 'uhhh..' and some shifting in seats, because watching it was awkward too.

Though, honestly, if there were anyone out there who would be the master of awkward hugging, it would be Voldemort.

Batman and Doctor Who, if only

This should be real. I'm saying this because Batman has always been my favourite superhero, and right now the Doctor is one of my favourite [insert any noun that pertains to him]. It's like having a movie with both the Doctor and Harry Potter. That level of awesomeness, in my humble opinion, in comic book form would explode into a flurry of fascinating storylines of parallel universes where the Doctor joins the main characters on some epic adventure or another and helps them save the world.

I mean, Marvel and DC are up to their ears in parallel universes where the dead aren't actually dead, so why not join forces with BBC/Steven Moffat/Russel T. Davies and make all nerd boys and girls alike die from excitement. I can just picture the bonds of friendship forged at comic-cons across the universe as people dressed like Gambit approach someone dressed like the Tenth Doctor and discuss the latest adventure their respective characters had in the latest Uncanny X-Men.

I feel like their should be a petition of some sort to make this happen. Don't they always have petitions for the cult like fan needs? Or is that just for things that Joss Whedon creates that the network decides isn't popular enough?

Pottermore: Brilliance webified

I realized about 20 minutes or so ago, in a confusing-to-anyone-who-doesn't-know-me yell of "ZOMG! Pottermore!" (yes I say "ZOMG" in real life) as I lept for my [mother's] computer, that today was the first day to register for early access to the website Pottermore by the awe-inspiring JK Rowling. It being Harry's/JK Rowling's birthday, today was naturally the first day, but to my dismay I found out that registration was closed (as expected). A glimmer of hope loomed though, because despite registration being closed for today, it's not, as I expected, closed permanently until  the official launch. Oh no, that would be silly, and something any other normal website would do. Clearly something that has emerged from the mind of Ms. Rowling has to exceed the expectations of her devoted fans (i.e. me); just as she gave us 7 books, she's also giving  us 7 days and 7 chances to get early access to the website.

The best part, other than the whole website, is that you can't just register by being the first and signing up your name. Again, that would be silly and something any other normal website would do. To be part of the magical world that Pottermore is surely going to offer us, you have to be magical yourself, and be good with riddles.

What is The Magical Quill?

The Magical Quill detects the birth of magical children and writes their name down in a large book. To find out if your name is in the book, you need to find The Magical Quill and then submit your registration details on Pottermore.

I don't know, maybe I just have deep love for JK Rowling and everything she creates, but I cant help but to think that this woman is absolutely and fantastically brilliant. I mean, I'm aware that this registration process is something small and silly and gimmicky, but I got so extremely excited...and that's wot I like, she got me excited to register for a website. Not a lot of people have managed to do that. Actually, no one has ever gotten me excited to register for their website. I've been excited to use websites, but never to simply have the chance to register for them. It may be a little frustrating to try and figure out the riddles, or even try and figure out wot would be the optimal time to try and sign up (with the whole time zones thing existing on our little planet).

Also the whole 'magical birth' think is quite clever. I can see children and adults all over the world working out riddles and going "HA!" when they figure them out and are told that their names have been found in the book. Then they can turn to people who don't like Harry Potter and murder them!

*cough* I mean, say "I told you I was magical!"

Official acceptance into Hogwarts

I know it's just a piece of paper, and I know that I could probably write up my own and print it out and find a crest and have someone forge McGonagall signature, but it's not the same.  I mean, you customise it to put your name and address, so it wont be like I'm accidentally getting Harry's letter (that would be quite a big mistake on the part of the postal service), but I thought it would be best to not reveal my address on the internet. I think about things sometimes. Just imagine actually getting this in the mail, I mean, I can be 11 again! That's half my age, so if I just split into two, it'd be almost like there's just two of me being 11, right? Right?!

I feel like, just like the journal of fantastic things, this is one purchase I really should not make.
