Grimm

Fans of Buffy and Angel and their creators rejoice! Our wonderful David Greenwalt, executive producer extraordinaire (only slightly behind Joss Whedon in awesome ranking, and his tendencies to create wonderful cult hits...though that's more him being a creator and writer than a producer) is executively producing a new fantasy/supernatural/cop show entitled Grimm.

Yes, Grimm, as in the Grimm brothers, as in the faerie tales. Now, I don't know about you guys, but as a lover of cop/detective shows to begin with (Castle and Bones to name my favourites...yes, apparently I follow the actors that Mr. Whedon basically brings to light. I can't help it, I've been in love with David Boreanaz since I was eight. Also, CSI: Miami to name my guilty pleasures) and as a fanatic when it comes to fantasy and supernatural things, reading the about page caused my excitement level to rise exponentially with each line.

And then I saw David Greenwalt's name. That, more or less, sealed the deal. NBC, don't let me down.

This pretty-eyed boy is David Giuntoli, the lead in the show.

The Heart represents love

Whoever proposes to me better do it with either this ring or the One ring. Preferably in white gold for this one, and maybe an emerald as the heart or something...but nothing that looks tacky. I mean, I can buy a tacky one on my own (I just happen to have a regular, off-of-Saint Marks, one which I got many years ago, so none of that cheap run of the mill bullshit).
Anywho, I'm back home! Woot woot, right? Back to regular 'face of the day' posts that I'm sure all of you have been missing immensely.

Things my days are filled with

Source: wheresmythief.tumblr.com
My ringtone is the Doctor Who theme song, so I hear this theme frequently during my day. And by frequently I mean at least once. I swear I have friends! /tears
This and the Angel theme song. But that's only when my sister calls.

Older Men that are acceptable to date

This just made my day. Mostly because of the addition of Ten and Aragorn, because I assumed Angel and Spike would be on it (cause, come on, who wouldn't?) though I am a bit surprised that Lestat (either circa Tom Cruise or Stuart Townsend) wasn't added to this mix. I'm pretty sure there are like a few hundred more older men that should/can be put on this list.

I need a hug

The first couple I ever shipped, fourteen years later and I'd still ship them almost instinctively. Buffy/Angel for life.

Buffy/Angel Love

Source: colaitiongirl.tumblr.com
So much love. As I was knitting yesterday I decided to go watch Season 1 of Buffy, and I remembered why I fell in love so many years ago. Everything about that show was fantastic, the characters, the music, the witty quirky dialogue, the relationships, the set up and the monsters. The lighting was kind of weird and almost so dark that some scenes were practically pitch black, but that didn't even matter.

Words of Wisdom

If we all don't take cover, we're all going to fall back in love again.

- Brand New, "Aloc-Acoc"

This episode...words cannot even express the sadness that fills my heart every time I see it. It's like a black hole appears in the centre of my being and sucks all the happiness from the atmosphere.

They were both so happy. That was quite not cool of Joss Whedon to do to me them.

42

Yeah, it's not going to stop with this gif thing now that I've got the general hang of it...because, you know, it's so difficult to upload pictures.

Anyhow, the reason for this slightly sad onslaught:
As I was heading home from interning/work Coldplay's '42' started playing, and the line "Those who are dead are not dead they're just living in my head/and since I fell for that spell I am living there as well"

And it made me think of all the Doctor's reincarnations (the ones that I have lived/watched/loved) and then the characters who are gone and all the characters in Buffy and Harry Potter and even video games that have died and all the moments that technically don't exist any more because of some magic or time shift or other twist or fate, how they are, for all intents and purpose, dead.

And then I thought about the things I think about (woooo circular logic!), the things I dream about, where my imagination goes when I let it off its leash, and it made those lyrics so much more poignant. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still cry my eyes out and my heart still breaks every time I read/watch those events occurring, but it makes me feel a little better knowing that as long as I think about them, as long as I live and love and dream and cry and fight and dance with them, then they will never truly die.

Yeah, I take my fictional characters very very seriously.

Spike Love

"And now I'm just a biiig fluffy puppy with bad teeth."
- Spike

He used to be my favourite, before he fell in love with Buffy and got all pansy-like. Nobody likes a Pansy Spike. He was just so entertaining. Angel had me at "don't worry, I don't bite," but Spike was the resident bad boy, and who can resist that?
Clearly I'm still a pre-teen when it comes to attraction to bad boys and the like.

Since we're on the subject of James Marsters being snarky, this is pretty entertaining too (0:20-0:24 is the best part)

Reading about Ancient Egyptians and their concepts of order (Maat) and chaos and creation makes me realize there was a reason I took this class. I might forget this reason while in class and I will probably curse it vehemently over the next few days, but when I can block out the stress of grades and boredom of droning lectures, I appreciate it for the fascinating topic that it is.

To Ponder or Not To Ponder

Ever have those days where your teacher just says things that resonate within you?
I keep having those days with my Journalism teacher.

"It's not that the reader falls in love with that person, but that the reader understands why you're in love with them."

As someone who can't go through the day without writing something, it seems that that would be given. But it wasn't until he said it last week that I realized that I spend so much trying to get the invisible reader to fall in love with the characters I write about, or even get perplexed at the idea that they're not in love with the characters in the tv shows that I love, that I forget to simply make them understand my own feelings.
But srsly, look at this face
It doesn't matter, at the end of the day, if Viking and Moon don't love Draco as much as I do, the point is that they know why I do and are not continuously bombared with furrowed brows and me going "but he's fantastic!" (which doesn't explain very much).

[Note: I'm not exactly sure why Draco Malfoy is the first person that came to mind, but it's probably because I get the most resistance when it comes to love for him, as opposed to, say, Angel, who seems to be universally loved for his tall/dark/handsome/brooding qualities]
