Brief apology/Ramos fails

I know I didn't post any lovely Doctor Who stuff yesterday, and was sorely lacking in the whole posting department, and I apologize profusely for that. Unfortunately, I cannot remedy that situation right now (i.e. I cannot post 8 million things in a row to make up for my lapse yesterday) because I have an internship to not be late for, and a Game of Thrones book to start reading (jumping on that bandwagon late, but if it redeems me in any way at all, I have made a deal with myself to not watch the show until I've finished reading it...well, not watch the episodes that correspond to each section I'm reading until I've read that section...it make sense if you're in my head/have friends who have both watched the first episode and have read the book and can bookmark where you can stop). I do promise to return later tonight with plenty of Whovian love.
To tide you over, I hope you accept this video of Sergio Ramos (i.e. Spaniard and Real Madrid right back) being a total fool and dropping the cup that Real had just won. You know, because not winning the Copa del Rey in 18 years wasn't bad enough, you have to go ahead and drop the thing from the top of your moving bus and let it get partially crushed. Good job Ramos, way to give the rest of the Spanish clubs a reason to laugh at us.

I'll say one thing though, it's rather entertaining to watch, especially since it seems like it's falling in slow motion (perfect for a Michael Bay movie, especially if the minute the bus runs over it, everything exploded). I'm just wondering why it took about 20 people to retrieve the cup, why it took so long for the bus driver to stop driving...I'm pretty sure the giant thing fell right in front of him, and so unless he was looking anywhere but straight ahead, he should have stopped immediately. Otherwise, maybe they should find another bus driver keeps his eye on the road. Oh yes, they should also probably leave the cup carrying to Casillas, or Pepe, or maybe Kheidra (he's scary looking, the cup wouldn't dare leave his hands and try to commit suicide lest he bring it back to life simply to crush it with his own hands).
On the bright side, at least this did not happen during their tour of Madrid with the world cup. Cause that would have been unforgivable.

Copa del Rey: CAMPEONES!

It's a tad bit blurry, because the stream I got it from got blurry when I screen-shoted it...but still, the point gets across. We won! By a tiny margin of extra luck, and Cristiano being on point for once, and possibly some acts of violence on Real's part...but still, the result is the same.

I love watching Casillas lift trophies (see: Euro 2008, World Cup 2010) because he always does this scream of triumph and passion and joy. It wonderfully reflects the screams of passion and triumph and joy that leap out of my mouth without my control, usually accompanied by "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" and a lot of me looking around the room to see if anyone will share in the engulfing surge of happiness, and/or will simply let me go into detailed explanations of which particular play was the turning point.
More often than not I find that I'm actually all alone (save the cat who, at this point, has most likely darted away from my random, seemingly bi-polar behaviour which consisted of either screaming out in joy, letting loose a long string of expletives at my computer, or huddling with my eyes half-shielded going 'oh no, oh please no, please no'), so I have to be content with sending instant messages or texts to members of the losing team (i.e. future husband, and most of my family members). I deserve to gloat when the chance arises, it's not often that it does.

Copa del Rey: some pre-game fun

My future husband sent me a link to this Adidas commercial, and it just made me so happy. I can't help it, I get sentimental when I see cutesy, friendly rivalry things like this that makes me believe (albeit probably naively) that despite the epic, centuries decades old battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid, that the players are actually friends with each other and/or (at the very least) that they don't hate each other. I'm slightly positive that most of the Spaniards on each team don't hate each other (considering that they end up playing for the same National Team, and they seem to show love during those matches), but even the foreigners.
This especially made me happy considering that he's a Barça fan and I'm a Real fan. We make our love work by allocating times that we are allowed to hate on the other person and times where our love overcomes all. For example, during the Clásico games we basically can't stand each other/throw insults at the other person and their team. After the match, the person whose team has won gets an hour to gloat and put the other person down, and then it's back to normal love and affection.
Usually, that only happens about two or three times a year (two league matches and occasional Champions league and/or Copa del Rey face-offs), but this year, because the Fates are cruel, there are a total of five Clásico matches. Two have already occurred (both Liga matches, the first which we lost, an incredibly shameful 0 to their 5), one which will happen in an hour or so (3:30 pm EST hence the video ad/tribute/reference) and then two more for the Champions League semi-finals, one next week and the last the week after.

Heart attack waiting to happen indeed.

Borderline-blasphemy at its finest

Source: whoareyadesigns.com
I really want this shirt. I would wear it everywhere.

Never fear, Saint Iker is here

I will acquiesce to a tie. I mean, it could have been worse...we could have lost 5-0. Oh wait, already done that!
/killsself
I just need to remember that there was a reason, once, that I loved this team, despite their apparent lack of qualms when it comes to causing other teams bodily harm and their ignorance as to wot the defence is meant to do (I'll give you a hint, it's not go 'oh shit!' and scramble towards the goal at the last minute, while the other team barrels towards it with the ball and victory on their minds). I can't for the life of me remember wot this reason was/is, other than my devotion to Captain Saint Iker and a nostalgic memory of Zizou and Becky and Fatty (the real Ronaldo, the original number 9) and Ronaldinho being brilliant. Nevertheless, there's a loyalty that resides within me, and despite the fact that I humbly respect Barcelona, for the sheer beauty of their style if nothing else, I am a Madridista through and through, and will continue to be one whether facing devastating defeats or blood pressure raising ties or glorious, triumphant wins.
That's either amazing dedication on my part, or sheer stupidity. I'll let you know in 17 days. As my future husband so truthfully put it: el clasico matches are heart attacks waiting to happen...so I might not be alive to tell you how I feel about my team after the 4th face off.
And he makes everything better too...my San Iker

Appeal to Mourinho

Dear Jose Mourinho,
Seeing as it's currently half-time, I hope that you're giving the team a good talking to because, honestly, they need to get their ass in gear if they're going to get through the next 17 days/3 games. Here's wot you need to do:
First, please explain to our non-existent defence that, contrary to popular belief, Casillas is not superman and he cannot constantly outrun a speeding ball (especially one kicked by a certain tricksy little Argentinian).
Second, take Kheidra out, he's absolutely useless.
Third, explain to the offense (i.e. Cristiano) that in order to actually win a game, they need to complete their passes and actually score. I'm aware that Captain Caveman is formidable and kind of scary, but once you get past his flying abilities, it'll all be good...just don't give up on the damn ball halfway down the pitch.

That is all for now. I'll talk more after the game is over.

Sincerely,
Yazya
(i.e. She who is going to develop high blood pressure, and possibly resort to drowning her stress in drugs and alcohol)

Procrastination and Football

It's gotten to the point where I'm putting off doing this essay because I'm scared shitless that it will just end up being total and utter crap. Which is counter-intuitive if you think about it. But I'm not going to think about it cause that would be silly and I'll probably start to hyperventilate.
So thank you, newly constructed blog, for allowing me to prolong diving into a sea of horrible academic writing, trying to analyse concepts that are beyond my time and word-padding/bullshitting like it's my job. At least here I don't get graded for said horrible writing (not to mention, here I can write about wotever the hell I choose).

First, I want to comment on this tweet:
Srsly?! You've updated Cristiano's hair? And that's so fucking important that you had to dedicate a tweet to it? I'm still pissed that he demanded to have 'Ronaldo' printed on his shirt while he was number 9, because only the real Ronaldo deserves that honour (as in the Brasilian, brilliant one who is now retired from playing football) when he's always had it as "C. Ronaldo." It doesn't help that he then had the audacity, when Raul (my favourite) moves to some German team whose name I can't for the life of me remember, to demand taking Raul's number 7 because he's know  as 'CR7' and has a store under that name and whine and whine and whine.
I'm a Madridista through and through, I've had to endure mockery and 'ha-we're-so-much-more-awesome' chants from my family members (who all support Barca) and the pain of watching them be stupid and screw up and lose embarrassingly and I still root for them. But Cristiano just drives me crazy. Also tweets like that are just so unnecessary. Isn't it bad enough that everything things he's an arrogant, douchey, vain drama queen? This only seems to magnify those sentiments. I know he gets things done and is more than capable of getting goals, but that doesn't make me like him.
And no, he will not be the new top scorer of La Liga. I honestly think Messi will remain the top scorer. Because he's Messi, and he's brilliant and fantastic and a magician with the ball.
“Barcelona and Real Madrid warn European rivals” by Jonathan Stevenson is, in my opinion, one of the best post-match analysis articles out there, especially about the Clasico games. Starting at the sixth paragraph till the end Stevenson seems to have a creative/poetic flair that suits Barcelona's flow, and the dance that is football. "And then there was Messi." Brilliant.
I'm done ranting about that, scouts honour.
