David Tennant's face of the day

A wild Doctor appears! He uses confusion! It's very effective!

Fright Night: The Doctor in leather

So...yeah.
I mean, at first I cringed at that long haired wig and that creepy goatee thing, but then he lounged and I died a little inside and then he said "well" in that way that he used to say as the Doctor, and I didn't even care anymore. I would have seen this movie regardless, but that single word just made it all the more exciting.

John Barrowman, Comic-Con bubbliness

Source: harold--saxon.tumblr.com
Torchwood Panel at Comic-Con 2011.

There are many things I love about John Barrowman in this series of gifs. His Iron Man shirt for starters, his facial expressions, and his outrageousness and enthusiasm at being able to have sex with a 22 year old on tv.

Mostly the last...I'm 23, can I be on Torchwood? If I can't have Teninch, I'll take Captain Hotsauce.

[Addendum: I don't know why it took me five days to realize this, but I'm actually 22, and not 23. I think the heat and the fasting and the lack of sleep has caused me to age prematurely. Or maybe I've been travelling with the Doctor for a year and lost track of time. Let's just go with the last one, shall we?]

Ramadan Musings: Day 3

Would have posted this sooner, but the internet likes hating me so that didn't work out too well.

Thursday August 4th, 2011

1:20am: had the last packet of soup and the last of the mini hotdogs, am sad
1:25am: wondering if going to Spinney's again tomorrow would be too soon
1:26am: decided i don't care if it is too soon, I want some damn Alphabet soup
1:40am: had some mutant giant blackberries, they were delicious. Wondering how many chemicals I've consumed in the last 20 minutes alone
1:50am: wondering if Vampires are muslim, or are on constant Ramadan timings...after all, they don't eat/drink/domuchofanything during daylight hours (the real nonpansy ones at least...unless they're Angel, but his excuse was that he attempted to solve crimes/help the helpless during the day, not glitter like a damn disco ball)
1:55am: realized that could be blasphemy, apologized profusely to God after saying "I didn't mean it, man" to the ceiling

4:19am: thinking it's probably karma that my sister, cousin, and I laughed at our friend Loki's (also a non-muslim who's fasting) predicament at chugging water in the last thirty seconds before choking and spitting it out: found ourselves rushing to drink water as if our lives depended on it as the Athan started outside.
4:49am: found an email from delivery.com that roommates back in new york have ordered from Philly's Cheesesteaks (delivery.com is registered to my email). Resisting urge to view the order. It's not the creeper aspect that bothers me, but the wishing I was there eating the delicious chicken strips. Wonder wot that says about me

David Tennant's face of the day

Yes, he really is. Though that face and his anger really do frighten me. "He is like ice and fire" indeed.

Batman and Doctor Who, if only

Source: elvinhernandez.deviantart.com
This should be real. I'm saying this because Batman has always been my favourite superhero, and right now the Doctor is one of my favourite [insert any noun that pertains to him]. It's like having a movie with both the Doctor and Harry Potter. That level of awesomeness, in my humble opinion, in comic book form would explode into a flurry of fascinating storylines of parallel universes where the Doctor joins the main characters on some epic adventure or another and helps them save the world.

I mean, Marvel and DC are up to their ears in parallel universes where the dead aren't actually dead, so why not join forces with BBC/Steven Moffat/Russel T. Davies and make all nerd boys and girls alike die from excitement. I can just picture the bonds of friendship forged at comic-cons across the universe as people dressed like Gambit approach someone dressed like the Tenth Doctor and discuss the latest adventure their respective characters had in the latest Uncanny X-Men.

I feel like their should be a petition of some sort to make this happen. Don't they always have petitions for the cult like fan needs? Or is that just for things that Joss Whedon creates that the network decides isn't popular enough?

[Passive aggressive? Who, me?]

Nothing compares to Third Strike

Though I might not pick those games as my analogies, I completely understand the sentiment.

David Tennant's face of the day

That moment of panic when you've been cornered/found yourself in an awkward situation and are desperately searching for the nearest and quickest escape route.

Ramadan Musings: Day 2

Here it is Day 2 of my observations/inner dialogue during parts of the day/mostly sunset hours of this month. It's shorter than yesterday, but I saw that coming. There might even been a day or two where I have no musings *gasp!* I know, right?

Tuesday August 2nd, 2011

9:13pm
a piece of fluff flew past me during prayer. Had to resist urge to grab it.
9:25pm
accidentally headbutted the woman in front of me's ass as we prayed. Hoping God saw that I tripped. Going to go ahead and give props to myself for not bursting out in laughter and disrupting everyone else's prayers too.

11:42pm
craving passion fruit, wondering where I can find it in the Motherland

Wednesday August 3rd, 2011

12:15am
at Spinney's, hands full with Kinder, Frosties, alphabet soup, a seven pack of potato crisps, blackberries, mini hotdogs, condensed milk flavoured biscuits and cat treats. No sign of passion fruit, clearly making up for it. They shouldn't have left me alone
12:20am
cannot find my cousin or sister, found individual servings of condensed milk instead. Fair trade, in my opinion.

1:29am
have to constantly remind myself that there is no need to try and finish all the food I bought in the next 3 hours, and no possibility. The sadist/massochist in me responded to that thought with "challenge accepted."

3:09am
have eaten two packets of crisps, half the packet of mini hotdogs and had one packet of soup made, no finished. With one hour of being able to eat to go, seriously considering seeing if i can consume all the food I bought. Cousin asleep, sister on the phone, no one to convince me otherwise
3:11am
should probably specify that the food was also eaten by my ousin and sister, not a glutton *shifty eyes*

4:17am
searching for Doctor, stomach hurting slightly as a way of saying "the point of this month is not to gorge yourself when the sun is down". Glad I resisted urge to eat everything in sight, could have felt worse
4:25am
sneezed repeatedly as I sat down, despondent, to drink water seconds before time was up. Doctor proceeded to emerge from amongst several piled suitcases in the darkest recesses of the furthest unreachable corner of the room with a bored look of "you summoned?"

5:07am
trying to write a list of things I need for a visa application, kept misspelling "receipt" as "recipet," gave up and decided to go through allrecipes.com
5:10am
realized that the way 'recipe' is spelt really bothers me, annoyed that every time i write 'spelt' there's a red sguiggly underneath
5:15am
looked it up, apparently 'spelt' is primarily used in UK whereas 'spelled' is more common in Amrrca and Canadia. Stockholm syndrome is my only explanation

Proof of Magicalness

I am magical. Your arguments are invalid.

David Tennant's face of the day

Source: killerqueen-.tumblr.com

I guess "David Tennant's face(s) of the day with a cameo from Donna's face" would be much more appropriate, but that's a mouthful, so let's not change anything.

Re-watching the new series has made me realize that Donna and Rose were right, the Doctor does need someone to stop him every once in a while. The thing is though, Martha and Amy don't really do that. Don't get me wrong, I adore them both (Amy more so than Martha, but only because Martha overrides her own awesomeness by constantly doe eyeing the Doctor and being offended that he doesn't return the favour, though sans him she regains her badassery), but they more or less seem to let the Doctor do his thing.

It's almost like Martha is so in awe of him that she lets that get in the way of being 'maybe you should chill out now.' I'm being a little harsh, I know and I'm equally aware that that's not always true, but that is only because I've seen the future (my computer doubles as a TARDIS) and I know that in her own right Martha can handle her shit. So seeing her moon after the Doctor and suddenly turn into a clueless, possessive and unnecessarily jealous entity when crises strikes, the Doctor mentions Rose, or doesn't suddenly declare 'Martha Jones, you're the only companion for me! hurts my soul a little.

I'm going to have to reevaluate Amy's behaviour, and also wait for her run to end, before making final calls on her, but from wot I can remember of series five and six it seems like she's more content in doing her own thing and getting herself in trouble than really helping the Doctor.

I know Rose has her 'quoi?' moments too, and she's no stranger to screwing up and jealousy mooning after the Doctor, but I feel like she held her own more often than not. Also, as Willow Rosenberg so rightfully put it "love makes you do the wacky." (Yes, I just used love as a legitimate excuse, wotchagonnadoaboutit?) If none of that satisfies you, she's the Bad Wolf, she created herself. Your argument is invalid.

As for Donna, well let's not even get started on how epic she is. I don't think I'd be able to put it into words if I tried.

Ramadan Musings: Day 1

That's right folks, during daylight hours, Muslim men and women aren't allowed to hold hands whilst floating above a bed.

So my dear Viking friend of mine, who is Christian, has decided to try out Ramadan for the first time this year as a form of solidarity with our mate of the room variety, so that she doesn't have to fast by herself (now that's love right there). In the meantime, he's decided to write down his experiences with fasting in journal-esque format.

On a whim, and though this is far from my first Ramadan, I've decided to do the same and then upload some of them the next day, just for fun (and slightly to have more than one post a day, this internet is killing me folks). So here they are, day one of my Ramadan musings. Forgive the ramble, slightly decent into madness, and complete stupidity of some of them.

Keep in mind that the timings correspond to Abu Dhabi.

August 2nd, 2011

2:07am
realized I can't keep sleeping at 8am and waking up at 2pm for the rest of the month. The prospect of more daylight frightens me. Trying to find a list of things to do that will distract from heat and thirst and boredom. Have ruled out DDR, am now sad
2:10am
realized that writing these Ramadan reflections are actually fun. Might consider doing that. Fingers crossed for it not making me feel worse.
2:56am
hope roommates have remembered that cat isn't fasting and, according to Islam, probs shouldn't be tortured

3:30 am
wondering if it's Ramadan that’s causing sister to go crazy. She's having a rant about no one being able to hate her if she's in a comma.
3:31am
it might be the heat, I misspelled "coma," and my cousin asked wot my sister will be doing during the time that she's in her coma. She's in the damn coma, she can't do anything but be in a coma.
3:32am
reconsidering applying for internships in this state. It's not even sunrise and already I'm dying of thirst and delusional. All I can think of to answer the question " Describe a specific project or assignment you have worked on that illustrates your strengths in the area(s) of interest you have selected" is "I deal with my family on a regular basis. This illustrates my strengths of patience and high tolerance for stress and ridiculousness. In addition, it shows how I can multitask, i.e. keeping saying while resisting the urge to strangle them and still being able to form mostly coherent and respectful responses to repeated questions."

Saving the world, one plant at a time

Now for something completely different, stream of conscious writing out in the backyard.

The air around me is mellow and warm. It threatens to erupt in throat-constructing thickness, tempting the night sky with heavy fog that dulls the light-pollution tinted midnight blue sky. The horizon is an almost sickly puce, darkening as it reaches higher to the heavens. I face a starless sky, one which lets the moon stand in the majesty of its halo. The dark patches on the moon’s surface invite the curious to its long abandoned shores, promising an exhilaration combination of adventure and weightlessness. But this gravity-strong planet refuses to give me up that easily, holding on even as I slowly erode its defenses, use up its resources.

The backyard seems to protest my presence. The grass is stiff, refusing to even humor me with a semblance of comfort. It tells me that no amount of watering will soften its razor tips. It doesn’t collect any morning dew. The patches of gold, a testament to the scorching sun, reveals its distaste for postcard perfection. Underneath the stiffness, though, it yields. I hear a yearning for colorful companions to brighten its borders, a flutter of soft wings to delve into its surface, a warm body to make it feel needed.

I am an intruder on its silent distaste, I am not understanding like the soft scuttling beetles, that barely scrape its tips. I am a semi-permanent presence, bent on changing its ideals. I too want companionship. I cannot find it in the graying sky, or the unreachable moon. Even the air passes by me, uncaring. It doesn’t provide heat, or moisture. It is inconsequential. But I can feel the grass beneath me, even as it refuses to soften for me. I can examine the not-so-subtle bright green that changes into yellow. I can witness the glittering beetle weave through the tangle of grass to escape my threatening figure. I can, if only vaguely, understand its loneliness.

I feel stiff, though I loath being so. My muscles protest my movements, my feeble attempts to make something of my days. I yearn to be useful, to impart some of my skills, few as they may be, to those surrounding me. Instead, I sit still, unable to even to participate in the flurry of activity that surrounds me. My brightness is fading. They scuttle around me, never staying long enough to make an impact, to scrape deeper. I look up at the moon with the breathing, dying figure beneath me, and feel as unused, as pointless as it must feel. I long to join the wind, to flutter unconcernedly around. To shift and change subtly. To swivel and swirl, an invisible torrent, soaring through wide open windows that coax me in, through rushes of breathe that stir the night air. I want to blow softly through long hair, cause goose bumps to rise on small arms, and dance with loose petals and fallen leaves.

I want to blow life into this decrepit patch of land.

Doctales!

Doctales, Who-ooo!

Now try and get htat out of your head, I dare you.

(P.S. Happy Ramadan!)
